220V Wire Size Formula

220V residential uses single-phase split-phase (two hot legs, neutral, ground). Voltage drop formula uses factor-of-2 round trip:

V drop = (2 × K × L × I) ÷ cmil

At 240V, a 3% drop allowance = 7.2V — roughly double the 120V headroom, so longer runs are practical.
