When Did I Conceive?
Conception occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg — typically 11–21 days after the start of your last menstrual period. For an average 28-day cycle, this is around Day 14 (ovulation day).
Estimating Conception from LMP
Estimated Conception = LMP + (Cycle Length − 14) days
Example: LMP Feb 1, 28-day cycle → Conception ≈ Feb 15

The Fertile Window
The fertile window spans 6 days: the 5 days before ovulation + ovulation day itself. This is because sperm survive 3–5 days and an egg is viable for ~12–24 hours after release.

Tracking Ovulation
Several methods can help you identify your fertile window with varying degrees of accuracy:
LH Ovulation Tests (OPKs)
Most reliable method. An LH surge precedes ovulation by 24–36 hours. Begin testing a few days before expected ovulation.
Basal Body Temperature (BBT)
Temperature rises ~0.4°F after ovulation. Confirms ovulation occurred but doesn't predict it. Track on waking, before getting up.
Cervical Mucus Observation
Mucus becomes clear, stretchy, and egg-white consistency at peak fertility. Easy, free, and accurate when done consistently.
Cycle Tracking Apps
Useful for predicting based on averages, but not accurate for irregular cycles. Best paired with OPKs or BBT.
Working Back from Your Due Date
