What is a LBM Calculator?

The calculator is grounded in established mathematical and scientific formulas, presented through a clean, intuitive interface that anyone can use without prior technical knowledge. Simply enter your values, and the tool instantly computes your result — with clear labeling so you always know what each input and output represents. We've also included key formula references, so students and learners can understand the math behind the answer.
Whether you need this tool for a one-time calculation or use it regularly as part of your workflow, it's designed to be reliable, accurate, and completely free. No software to install, no account required, and it works seamlessly on any device — desktop, tablet, or smartphone.

The Science of LBM Formulas
Lean Body Mass is calculated by subtracting your fat weight from your total body weight. Since fat mass isn't always known, researchers have developed formulas based on height and weight:
Male: 0.407 × W + 0.267 × H - 19.2
Female: 0.252 × W + 0.473 × H - 48.3
W = Weight in kg, H = Height in cm. Boer is considered the most accurate for people within standard BMI ranges.
Male: 0.32810 × W + 0.33929 × H - 29.5336
Female: 0.29569 × W + 0.41813 × H - 43.2933
Hume is often used in medical research to estimate drug dosages based on lean tissue rather than total mass.

"Alex is 1.75 meters tall and weighs 75 kg. Using the Boer formula for men, his Lean Body Mass is calculated by analyzing height and weight metrics. The result is 61.2 kg of lean tissue, indicating a healthy body composition with an estimated 18.4% Body Fat."
Understanding FFMI ranges
*Note: Fat-Free Mass Index (FFMI) is normalized for height. Female ranges are typically 4 points lower than the male values shown above.
LBM vs. BMI: Which Matters More?
While BMI is a useful screening tool for general populations, it fails to distinguish between heavy muscle and heavy fat. A bodybuilder might have a BMI of 32 (Obese) but possess an exceptionally high Lean Body Mass and very low fat mas.
BMI Limitation
BMI only knows your total height and weight. It doesn't know what is inside that weight. It penalizes muscle density.
LBM Advantage
LBM identifies your metabolically 'active' weight. High LBM means you can burn more calories at rest, regardless of your BMI.
